Mortise and Tenon joints are a crucial part of any piece of furniture regardless of what type of wood you use. If the Mortise and Tenon joints are not made correctly,the furniture will not last!

We use CNC routers that produce precision every time and the rest of our machinery is equipped with digital readouts for unsurpassed results! Most of our competition brings their furniture from overseas. Drying and building wood furniture in a tropical environment is more than difficult, there are only a few companies that have mastered it, names like Smith and Hawkins have built their reputation over the years. There are 100’s of companies that you will find on the internet that all claim to kiln dry their lumber, use mortis and tenon joints… They all talk the “lingo” and claim to have the high quality furniture (it's quite funny when you look at it from our end because we know what they are selling) we will tell you 99% of them do not. You would have to break their furniture apart to see the differences. If you ever have the time visit our workshop or come to a show where we are displaying our furniture and compare us to our competition.

On our benches, you will find that every mortise, tenon, glue joint has a perfect fit, and we use only the best glue on the market today. Our tables are made with the same care as our benches that founded what BenchSmith is today. The market is full of companies importing extension tables with self-storing leaves. These tables were nice, we wanted to carry them, and our search for tables made to our standards was impossible. A table has over 100 critical joints. Even our supplier overseas could not meet with our standards. We made a decision to make our own! Using automated equipment and the knowledge of the same philosophy of mortise , tenon, and spline joints, BenchSmith tables became the hot seller at the Boston Flower Show in 2003. The Boston show has had several other teak suppliers over the last 4 years (we are the first), however every year some of the suppliers close their doors and new companies emerge. – The reason? Just because it's made from Teak – does not mean it is going to last. Last year there were 4 other companies selling Teak furniture. (3 of them were new) I have to admit, I was a little nervous when I read the pre-show vendor list. When I got to the show I did my usual comparing of the competition there....it was by far our best year. We actually gave customers the Booth numbers of our competition – There was no comparison. The reason is simple; we build a better product in the USA!
